Description
Every courtyard had a tulsi plant, and every household had a reason to reach for it. A sore throat. A long day. Nothing in particular. Nobody in that house called it wellness. They called it tulsi, and they boiled a few leaves in water because that is what you did.
We dry the leaf whole and then leave it alone. No oils, no lemongrass, no ginger, no attempt to make it taste like something else. If you have only met tulsi inside a blend, this will taste sharper and cleaner than you expect.
What it tastes like
Sharp, green and faintly peppery, with a cooling finish that arrives a second after you swallow. Some people find it medicinal on the first cup and cannot do without it by the fifth.
How to brew it
One teaspoon in 200ml of water at a full boil, five minutes with the lid on. Longer is fine, this leaf does not turn bitter the way black tea does. A little honey suits it, especially in winter.
When to drink it
Whenever. There is no caffeine here, so the hour never matters. Most people reach for it late in the evening or on the days a cold is circling.
